Who are we?
We are an independent not-for-profit arts organisation, bringing Ukrainian artistic and cultural presence into the heart of European cultural life.
Ukrainian culture is not seen as an integral part of European culture, while every day our common heritage is being destroyed.
Our foundation aims to remove this blind spot while solidifying Ukrainian presence within the European cultural context to create a living dialogue.
Why now?
FarNear exists to bring back lost and forgotten parts of European culture from Ukraine, uncovering shared roots and offering new perspectives. It aims to integrate Ukrainian culture into a broader European cultural context, connecting artists and culture-makers that enrich both sides. At the same time, it brings forward what is contemporary today and what has the potential to become canonical tomorrow.

Mission
FarNear Foundation (Stichting FarNear) wants to provide opportunities for culture-makers: artists, cinema directors, composers, musicians, poets, critics, thinkers, researchers, scholars, and others, who can open new perspectives on Ukrainian culture. Building an understanding through cooperation and dialogue between cultural actors from Ukraine, the Netherlands and EU, we explore what culture entails - not just what it represents.
Through projects in areas included, but not limited to: visual art, classical and experimental music, cinema, art catalogue and essay publishing, the foundation aims to create reflective and emotionally resonant experiences that foster contextualization, cross-cultural connections and understanding. The foundation strives to create a space which opens and facilitates engagement with Ukrainian culture in all its complexity, while building lasting collaborations and relationships between Ukrainian and European cultural industries.
Our mission to ensure the solid presence of Ukraine in Europe’s shared artistic and intellectual field stems from the understanding that culture is not a fixed identity, heritage or echo chamber to be solely consumed, but a living process that shapes civil society, challenges persisting storylines, and imagines the future.
Vision
We envision a future in which Ukrainian culture holds a strategic and lasting presence within the cultural fabric of the Netherlands and the European Union. Ukrainian culture-makers become a vital and integral part of European cultural heritage and contemporary intellectual discourses and are able to self-reflect on existing cultural biases and assumptions on other European cultures as well.
Our foundation stands at the intersection of fragmented contexts - from within Ukraine and beyond - working to create coherent, collaborative, and equal cultural practices. We see ourselves as a catalyst for this shift by creating connections between Ukraine’s culture and the European arts ecosystem. We facilitate projects, to pave the way for solid visibility and structural inclusion and appreciation of Ukrainian voices, maintaining their perspectives on a wide range of themes.
